There is a great deal of Jesus included in my writing, but it is not institutionalized Christianity. It is rather radical Christianity, Jesusism. I really don’t get how exclusionistic Christianity is sustained, as Jesus was anything but exclusionary. His messages were about surrender of our egoic need to compare against and judge others. In Jesus’s surrender to God was a miraculous transformation from limited human self to illuminated God self. And it wasn’t because he was more divine than the rest of us. It was because he did the work, he made the surrender, and he rose above the indignities of purely human existence. He became a changed entity through laying aside his fears and doubts and insecurities and giving his life to God. Why, why, why is this necessary? Because in our human limitations, our prejudices, our doubts and our fears, we will always fall short. It is only in stepping outside of the things that divide and separate us from God, and from one another, that we will find our delivery, our promised land.
Jesus taught that we would be healed, not by abiding in the law but by abiding in the Spirit above the law. The law was a starting place, a receptacle for our wrong thinking and our wrong doing, but there is a state of being underlying and yet above the law, much greater and more complete than the law. And that is the state of being that Jesus lived and taught from. He did not teach about maintaining or even improving the law, only striving to improve our ethical and moral compasses under the law. His mission was to rise above the need for the law, where the human life could be reconciled and transformed with gifts of love and wisdom much larger than the limited human condition into which we had been born.
Why, why, why? God made it so for reasons thus far beyond our comprehension. We are all growing into a larger reality, but in order to step out from the gravity of our limited human selves, we must step into that more that eludes us until we are willing to put aside our pretenses and our pretending to be more than we are. We must separate from our pretending, step out of our limited self-awareness and step into the realm of God awareness. Not doctrine or even faith, but belief in and joining with the God power, the source, the creator, the divine intervention that can illuminate our paths and illuminate our hearts and minds when we are ready. We must make ourselves ready. And maintaining the status quo, living in and from the same limitations we prescribed to yesterday, is not going to bring about the changes we need today. We must put aside our petty self-concerns in order to grow into the new awareness, the Kingdom of God waiting patiently for our recovery.
FOR MORNING REFLECTION
So the questions I must ask myself in my morning prayer and meditation are:
What am I going to do differently today?
Who am I going to be different today than yesterday?
